St. Johns Kindergarten Students Can Be COUNTED On To Help!
The sound of children counting to ever higher numbers echoed each Friday in the Kindergarten classrooms throughout the district as donated food items were sorted, stacked, counted and bagged. This successful service project was started three years ago in an effort by Kindergarten staff to teach their young learners the concept of helping within their community. Teachers delivered everything to the pantry shelves at the Capital Area Community Services building.
This year, the grand total was 3,042!!
Feed a Family Friday was FANTASTIC! |

Congratulations to all of the participants in the very first annual St. Johns Mile Madness. This year we partnered up with Playmakers to recognize the students for their accomplishments. The boys and girls in grades 6th – 8th were given the opportunity to qualify each week in the fall and spring during their physical education classes. With over 800 students at the middle school, 161 students qualified. Oakview students and staff lined Townsend Rd. and the middles school staff and students continued their line on Townsend Rd. to the finish line to cheer on all of the runners. The students have worked tremendously hard all year and are able to celebrate the benefits of their success. The “Top 10” finishers were:
8 Drew Hyatt 4:56
8 Collin Nurenberg 5:05
7 Codey Cook 5:16
8 Michael Hentemann 5:23
7 Nicklaus Bierstetel 5:29
7 Anthen Ruhf 5:30
8 Matt Dainton 5:31
7 Oliver Cocco 5:34
8 Cameron Legg 5:36
8 Kody Stockwell 5:41
We would like the volunteers to know how much we appreciated their hard work and dedication to the students at St. Johns Middle School: Playmakers staff (Andy Marsh, Brian Jones and Curt Munson) for making this a huge success. Jason Colthorp pumped up the runners at the starting line. Volunteers: Dr. Ladouceur and Pat Karek (announcing the participants names at the finish line), LT. Mike Carey and Officer Pierson (organized traffic on Townsend Rd.) Karla Palmer, Sarah Murgitroyd, Dave Moss, Nick Platte, Stephanie Kingsbury (recording times), Bryan Purves, and the Ambulance Service |

They have collected over 5,000 cans already this year! On March 23rd, the Can Kids purchased 120 leashes, collars, treats & toys and took the items to the Capital Area Humane Society. The Can Kids were treated to an educational tour of the facility and time with the animals. The motto of the Can Kids Club is “Making A Difference One Dime At A Time”. |
