Athletics and Activities
Dollar amounts referenced below are estimations based off of previous projects, square footage dollar amounts, and conversations with contractors, architects, and engineers. These numbers do not reflect actual quotes or bids on projects.
Tennis Courts and Sidewalk - $3,133,770
Our current tennis courts were resurfaced during the 2010 bond. They currently have many faults in them from cracks, dips, and drainage issues. We will be exploring options that fit our budget for the replacement of the courts. Options include replacement of the asphalt surface or post tension concrete.
While post tension concrete costs more, it is designed to last 30 to 40 years rather than the 15-20 years of standard asphalt with the additional benefit of not having the reoccurring maintenance of patching and crack filling.
This project also includes the sidewalk replacement and additions near the tennis courts.
Track Resurfacing - $221,729
The track was last resurfaced in the 2010 bond. The track needs to be resurfaced for several practical, safety, and performance related reasons. The track is used by more than just the track athletes. The track is frequently used by physical education classes as well as the community.
Safety
- Cracks, hard spots or uneven areas increase the risks of trips falls and athletic injury.
- Pooling water after rain can create slippery conditions and limit use
Performance
- Deteriorated track surface affects traction and consistency for runners.
- Athletes perform better on a properly maintained, regulation quality surface.
Practical
- Small cracks in the surface worsen over time and cause larger related issues.
- Regular track resurfacing extends the life of the underlaying asphalt base.
Swimming Pool Infrastructure & Elevator - $753,879
The pool and related equipment were installed during the 2010 bond. Due to the last 16 years of constant usage, multiple filtration and operational systems need to be replaced.
Items to be replaced
- Pool ultraviolet sanitizer
- Pool pump VFD
- Pool filtration system
Elevator access is vital to providing ADA access to the upper seating area in the pool. Currently the elevator is down with multiple issues including necessary state compliance upgrades, elevator lift rail replacement, and elevator control board replacement/upgrade.
High School Auditorium Lighting System Replacement - $369,548
Auditorium stage lighting was installed in the 2010 bond. The lighting utilizes outdated bulb technology that is expensive to replace and has a limited lifespan. The average cost of replacing a light bulb is $140 and they only have a 120-hour lifespan. This would include the replacement of the house and stage lights.
Auxiliary Baseball and Softball Fields - $221,729
Auxiliary baseball and softball field fencing is the originally installed fencing on the fields. There have been multiple repairs done to these areas and they are due for replacement.
Soccer Field - $369,548
The dedicated soccer field to the west of the track facility has grading, drainage, and irrigation needs. The bond would address all of these issues and leave the area with a playable surface during wet and dry seasons.
Practice Football Field - $44,346
The practice football field, the area to the southeast of the high school, is used more than any other field in the district with football, lacrosse, and SJYA football practices. We would be adding irrigation to the area to increase the longevity and playability of the surface.
Track Field Irrigation - $59,128
The field inside of the track is used to host middle school football, lacrosse, and track events. The field currently has no operational irrigation and adding irrigation to this field would assist in longevity and playability of the surface.
Adding Bathrooms by Fields and sitework - $1,164,816
Constructing new bathrooms near our outdoor athletic facilities.
Selective Music Instrument Replacements - $450,000
Our band and orchestra programs provide certain musical instruments to students (tubas, timpani, etc.). Instruments are reaching the end of their useful lifecycles. The bond would allow us to replace aging instruments as needed.
