Bus Garage

The transportation department is one of the most critical parts of the district as SJPS has over 200+ square miles to cover while transporting over 60% of our student population. The planned revamp of this location would include a new parking surface, office, and garage.

The actual age of the facilities are unknown, but both structures are in dire need of replacement. The garage main structural support columns are starting to rot, the lounge/office building is a repurposed trailer with many exterior issues, HVAC systems in both facilities are aged and have had many problems in the last year.

The majority of the parking lot is gravel base and slopes down heavily toward the Garage and Lounge. We encounter drainage issues on a regular basis because of the slope. We are frequently having to address potholes in the lot, and it is very hard to keep the buses clean, even at our own shop due to the parking lot being on gravel. 

Every year the district allocates $250,000 to the Capital Improvement fund for the purchase of 2 new buses. With the condition of the roads that we travel and the number of miles that we cover it is necessary to continue this schedule in order to keep buses on the road. If we are able to purchase buses out of the bond proceeds, we would not have to use the money moved from the General Fund.

New construction requires sitework to ensure parking, civil infrastructure, and landscaping supports the new building.
